Auto Injuries

What to Do After an Accident

Being in a car accident is stressful, and it's easy to feel unsure of what to do next. Here's a simple rundown to help you take the right steps early on:

  • Call your insurance company and file a report right away. Let them know you were in an accident and that you were injured — even if you're not sure how badly yet.

  • Get your claim number. Once you've reported the accident, your insurance company will issue one.

  • Call our office right away. Many people feel little to no pain in the days or even weeks after a crash, but injuries are often there under the surface. An early evaluation gets you the right care and documents your injuries in case you need that record later.

  • Don't wait. Delaying evaluation or treatment can make it harder to be compensated for future medical bills, pain and suffering, or lost wages.

A Few Tips About Your Claim

  • You don't need a referral from your medical doctor to see a chiropractor.

  • Your claim goes through your own auto insurance first, even if you weren't at fault — your insurer will pursue the at-fault party.

  • Your claim can stay open for up to a year.

  • If you reported no injuries at first, you can still reopen your claim later.

  • Massage therapy is covered by auto insurance with a referral from your chiropractor.

  • Avoid settling early. Once you settle, you can no longer use your auto insurance to cover medical bills related to the accident.

When You Come In, We'll Determine

  • The extent of your injury or injuries

  • Whether special tests are needed (X-ray, MRI, CT scan, etc.)

  • Whether a referral to another medical specialist makes sense

  • Whether a referral to an attorney is appropriate

  • Whether you need time off work (we'll provide a note for your employer)

  • The treatment plan and schedule that fits your injuries best
