CHIROPRACTIC CARE
Expect to spend about an hour at our clinic on your first visit. We'll perform a thorough history and physical examination in order to identify the cause of your concern. We may order tests such as X-rays, MRI's, or other laboratory tests to help establish a diagnosis. We'll then work with you to develop a treatment plan.
We may prescribe massage, physical therapy, or acupuncture in conjunction with your treatment. We work closely with many other medical providers in the community, such as primary care naturopathic and allopathic physicians. We will readily refer to other medical specialists, such as an internist, a physiatrist, an orthopedic surgeon, or neurosurgeon, when chiropractic care will not appropriately address your concern.
Many people are hesitant about chiropractic care because they think it always involves "popping" or "cracking" joints. The truth is that those techniques are only one part of chiropractic treatment, and they are not necessary for every patient.
Chiropractic care can be very gentle and adaptable. We use a variety of low-force techniques that are comfortable and effective, especially for people who are in pain or feeling nervous about treatment. Every treatment plan is based on your individual needs, comfort level, and goals.
As physicians specializing in musculoskeletal health, we focus on more than just the spine. Your care may include soft tissue therapy, exercise recommendations, movement education, lifestyle guidance, and other evidence-informed treatments. Our goal is to help you reduce pain, improve movement, and feel comfortable and confident throughout your care.

Chiropractic FAQs
-
At Sunstone Care PDX, chiropractic care is all about helping your body find its way back to balance. Our chiropractors work with the spine, joints, and nervous system to relieve back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, and more — using gentle, hands-on techniques tailored to you.
-
Absolutely. Chiropractic is one of the most well-researched forms of non-invasive care available. Before anything else, your chiropractor will take the time to learn your full health history and complete a thorough exam — because great Care always starts with truly knowing you.
-
Your first visit is about getting to know you. We'll walk through your health history together, assess your posture and movement, and run orthopedic and neurological exams. If helpful, your provider may order diagnostic imaging. By the end, your chiropractor will share their findings and talk through a care plan made just for you.
-
Totally normal — and nothing to worry about! That sound is simply gas releasing from the joint, similar to cracking your knuckles. Most patients find it satisfying and feel relief right away. We'll always explain what we're doing so you feel comfortable every step of the way.
-
Every body is different. Acute issues often respond quickly in just a few visits, while longer-standing conditions may benefit from an ongoing care relationship. After your initial exam, your chiropractor will give you a clear, honest timeline so you know what to expect.
-
Many plans — including Medicare and most PPOs — do cover chiropractic care. We recommend checking with your insurer ahead of your visit, and our friendly front desk team is always happy to help you figure it out.
-
In many cases, yes. We'll carefully review your surgical history and any imaging to make sure we're offering the safest, most supportive care for where you are in your healing journey.

Yes — chiropractors are doctors. They earn a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree after completing a rigorous graduate-level program that includes anatomy, physiology, neurology, radiology, and clinical training. While their focus is different from a medical doctor (MD), the education is equally demanding. At Sunstone Care PDX, our chiropractors are licensed, highly trained professionals who are fully dedicated to your care.
